After surviving Hurricane Milton, the GPS Robotics team got right back to work on bringing their robot designs off of paper and onto the workbench. Both VEX teams 1 and A, have officially finished finalizing designs and started building their robots for our mock VEX High Stakes competition.
VEX Team A (aka The Viltrumites) have begun developing their drivetrain and intake system for picking up and moving the scoring rings efficiently. The Viltrumites have worked exceptionally well together, getting lots done in the days we have been back from Hurricane Milton.
VEX Team 1 Has made there final touches to their drivetrain and have started making their intake system for the robot. This team has clearly worked excellently in terms of teamwork, with one of the most important parts of the robot being finished, while going step by step and starting their intake system shortly.
While our VEX teams have been problem solving and building their robots, the build team has ran into slight delays in terms of building the High Stakes field.
To start, our 3D printers have ran into some functional issues and has caused the build team to halt the production of the High Stakes mobile goals. Additionally, there was a shortage of PVC pipes, causing there to not be enough material to measure and cut, alongside problems with measuring the right amount of PVC needed.
Nevertheless, the build team has pursued through these trials and has gotten much more completed.
For starters, the build team has built their knowledge regarding the engineering machines, and how to use them safely. For example, they have used this information to help cut axles and other parts for the VEX teams. The build team has also aided in organization by completely organizing the back-room storage. The build team has also navigated around the problem with the PVC measurements and has restocked on PVC pipes.
An optional meeting was also held on Friday in order to give team members an additional day to make touches they need to meet the deadline for their robots.
All in all, GPS Robotics team members are all recovered well from Hurricane Milton and no major damage was done to the team members, nor the school. We hope everybody is okay and we send prayers to any families who’s houses were damaged during the hurricane!
