On Saturday, November 2nd, we attended our very first robotics event!

ROBOTICON 2024, held at University mall in Tampa, proved beneficial for the G.P.S Robotics team. With plenty of knowledge gained regarding fundraising, material accessibility, gaining sponsors, the building of FRC Robots, and much more; attending this years ROBOTICON proved beneficial for the G.P.S Robotics team.

At this ROBOTICON event, nine FRC teams from all around Florida came to show off their “Crescendo” robots by playing against each other and come out on top! You can find the specifics on ROBOTICON here:

With attending this event, the G.P.S Robotics had the opportunity to openly communicate with other FIRST robotics teams such as:

We would like to thank all of these teams for being inviting and making us feel welcome and helping us with any inquiries.

Diving into some of the topics discussed at this event, we found valuable information in regards to our approach to gaining sponsorships and fundraising opportunities. We discussed things like how to properly advertise, what the best methods of advertisement is, and much more with the FRC teams listed above. The G.P.S Robotics team values this information as a new team, as raising money is vital to be a successful robotics team.

Additionally, the G.P.S robotics team heavily inquired about materials and functions of certain parts of FRC Robots. Each of the FRC teams were enthusiastic about showing off their amazing FRC Robots, and with this display, came many more questions. Due to 2025 being the first year the G.P.S robotics team will work with FRC Robots, any information about how to build and understand these robots is heavily appreciated.

Continually, FRC team Exploding Bacon (1902) was generous enough to give a presentation to the G.P.S Robotics team about outreach, and different ways our team can outreach to promote and hopefully get sponsorships with. Methods of outreach include teaching robotics to groups of people (such as an elementary school,) selling merchandise, reaching out to companies for sponsorships, and much more.

We are grateful we had the opportunity to talk to so many FRC teams and openly communicate questions, and gain new knowledge. Thank you to all the teams that helped us and talked with us, it was much appreciated!
