Ready For Round Two!

Coming back from the Carrollwood Clash, the GPS Robotics team has gained valuable insight. Whether that knowledge came from mistakes made, tips we got from other teams, or the observations of other teams, the GPS Robotics team has the knowledge needed to improve any mistakes they made in this previous competition. All of these advances and newfound information will benefit the GPS Robotics team, as our upcoming competition is just around the corner!

On Saturday November 23rd, the GPS Robotics team will be attending their second ever VEX Competition at the Pasco Hernando State College (PHSC) campus in New Port Richey. Team members are expected to be there NO LATER THAN 8:25 A.M. Doors open for all parents and spectators at 9:00 a.m. and are more than welcome if you would like to support the GPS Robotics team in our second VEX Robotics competition! The full schedule for this event is as follows:

  • 8:30 Registration, Check-in and Inspections begin
  • 9:00 – Doors Open for fans and friends
  • 9:15 Welcome and tournament reminders
  • 9:30 – Inspection Table Closes, Driver’s Meeting
  • 8:45 – 10:15 Skills Fields Open (One field will remain open during qualification matches)
  • 10:30 – Qualifying Matches Begin
  • 12:15 Lunch Break
  • 1:00 – Qualifying Matches Resume
  • 3:00 – Qualifying Matches End
  • 3:30 – Alliance Selection
  • 4:00 – Elimination Rounds
  • 5:00 – Closing Ceremonies/Awards

What’s New?

In preparation for the upcoming VEX Robotics competition, both teams Viltrumites and team Metalheads have made brand new changes to both of their robots to improve performance and to push farther than they have in the previous competition. That being said, what changes have both teams made to their High Stakes robots?

The Viltrumites have taken the outcome from the Carrollwood Clash and implemented everything they have gained by adding major improvements to their robot. For instance, a great flaw in regards of the function of their robot was the practicality of the clamp (used to grab the mobile goals), which ensued a complete clamp redesign, alongside improvements to their intake system by replacing the rollers so the rings can be collected with . Additionally, the Viltrumites have built and attached an “arm” on their robot to score on the high stakes located on the side of the field, the arm can also be utilized to climb the ladder located in the middle of the field.

The Metalheads have also made great changes to their robot by improving their intake system, making it fluid and very effective in a fast-paced environment. Furthermore, the Metalheads have attached an arm to their robot. While both the Metalheads and the Viltrumites have added an arm to their robots, the way they function have their own, unique differences that are accustomed to the functions of their robots. Moreover, both teams have vastly improved their autonomous codes after learning how many points can be gained in the autonomous code.

Meanwhile, team B.O.B has furthered their knowledge and research in terms of FRC and future competition opportunities. Team B.O.B has additionally providing support for the VEX teams, as our main priority as a team are these competitions and being 100% for each and every one of them.

While both VEX teams are working diligently, two new members have joined the GPS Robotics team! The GPS Robotics team warmly welcomes Micah Escobar and Angelina Uy! These additional members have skills that will aid the GPS Robotics team and give us the push we need to grow as a team.


We are getting closer and closer to success and we have gained and grown so much as a team and we are going into this next VEX competition at PHSC with a completely new and open mindset. Make sure to cheer for GPS Robotics at PHSC in New Port Richey Saturday November 23rd and wish us luck! We will be giving it our all!
