Week of `12/8

On Monday, the club listened to a presentation led by the club lead Devin about FRC. He went over:

“What is FIRST- For Inspiration and Recognition of Science Technology which focuses on offering youth robotics programs that builds skills, confidence, resilience, career exploration, community, accessible STEM, and mentorship for robotics and any future endeavors our youth paves.”

FIRST programs like First Lego league, FIRST Tech Challenge, and FIRST Robotics Competition,

FRC etiquette would include things like not cursing, not horseplaying, being respectful, and acting in a manner appropriate of someone representing FRC,

FRC environment which he reminded us was friendly and fun so we should do our best to keep it that way by remaining respectful,

Safety where he reminded us that safety googles must be put over your eyes when in the pit and to not horseplay even in the stands,

Scouting where he explained the giving and receiving of pins and other presents from and to teams,

lunch where he explained the rules about lunch (no leaving the competition area) and how long we get to eat (30 minutes or essentially 15 minutes for drivers),

teams where he explained that teams will be giving each other items as needed and will be respectful towards each other,

and judges who will be watching us at all times and grading us based on performance, behavior, and outreach (which is essentially community service).

On Wednesday, Programming worked on WP ILIB in their computers with the programming lead. Electrical is reviewing the rulebook in preparation for FIRST while mechanical is working on VEX and tool safety. Finally, media worked on making the mascot, took pictures, and worked on the website.

The GPS robotics club thanks FIRST Robotics for allowing us to be ambassadors for FIRST Like A Girl. We deeply thank FIRST for this incredible opportunity and are excited to compete in the FIRST robotics competition.
