Tuesday
This week, the team focused on preparation for the competition and buckling down on working on the robot. we had quite the work week ahead of us. Mr. Barna passed out forms essentially telling parents that their children were in fact apart of club and the things we plan to do in preparation for safety concerns and transportation. Mr. Berman also sent notice that if your child has not registered yet, they must do so immediately. He told us that if it isn’t done today, we will need to explain why. He also said that we need to finalize the orders from vendor for parts.
Mechanical
worked on disassembling the chassis in our old bumper to make a kit bot. They built the kit bot using the provided materials which helps to build the skills they will need when doing the proper competition robot. They also get hands on experience with the tools they will eventually use for the robot.
Electrical
made preparations for the competition and reviewed electrical material. They also are trying to figure out how to power orange pi without it exploding. They are using it to read April tags on the field. It’s a type of photon vision hardware they were tasked to power.
Programming
worked on intake, autonomous, and WPLib C for programming. They are working on this to improve the coding skills necessary for the robot. They are typing in code into different places and using WPLib C for any downloaded material.
Media
worked on the mascot and website. One member worked on designing the mascot in different positions and perfecting different designs. It’s so that we can have options the club will eventually vote on to see which will be our actual mascot. We won’t be able to go all out like other teams are but the mascot will eventually be on pins, clips, and other handouts. The website needed this weeks newsletter.
Wednesday
We focused on increasing the skills we have need for the robot. We need our skills to be top-notch to compete with the other teams. We want to be able to provide competition and exercise our own competitive muscles. We had quite the work day.
Mechanical
worked on using a bandsaw with metal. Specifically, they cut metal t make sure they can do so for the robot proper. They will have to cut a lot of metal for the robot while working in a timeline. Allowing them to do so without the pressure, lets them get used to loud, powerful tools.
Electrical
worked on adding wiring to onshape design, add wires to CAD, adjust any electrical components, work with some of mechanical to see where the moving parts of the robots are, and fixing the placement of the battery. The onshape design has components that the electrical will need to add wires to. It needs to be functionable and as efficient as it can be. They also need to build skills on CAD for wiring.
Programming
completed the coding for intake and shooter. They had to complete this so the robot can follow the instructions we need it to. Assuming all goes well electrically and mechanically, programming needs to be very good so that the bot will move at all. It’s important that all the coding is not only made but perfected for the robot to work efficeintly.
Media
worked on the mascot and pin design. Our main artist worked on design variants and new designs so that we had fall back designs. It was a bit slower for us since we didn’t have the pin making machine yet.
Friday
Today was a bit slower in the club room since a lot of our members were doing outreach in Double Branch Elementary but some of our teams had quite the work load since we had to progress on the kitbot.
Mechanical
worked on the kitbot. The kitbot allows for the mechanical team to have driver practice and have extra robot in competition. The bot is especially viable this year so its a good fall back just in case anything happens. They need to finish building to pass it off to the other teams. It’s essential to get driving skills up to date for the competition to be successful.
Electrical
worked on the electrical, base components, and parts list. They finished up with the parts list that had all the things they needed for the robot. They also had to work on the electrical components of the robot. They are expected to finish the base components today.
Programming
worked on finishing the testing for the kitbot. They did a run down to make sure things worked and were able to finish. After mechanical finished the kitbot on their end, programming got to work programming the kitbot. They examined the files and are fixing things as needed.
Media
worked on pins, the flag, and donations. We tested the pin machine from last year to make sure everything was functional and to see which products we had for the buttons worked. Detailed instructions were made and put into the box for easy use. We worked on the flag design for representing the club with moving and copy pasting some elements to get our flag.
