About
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global nonprofit organization that prepares young people for the future through a suite of inclusive, team-based robotics programs. FIRST hosts FRC competitions across the United States. Teams come from all over the world to compete in these competitions to win and go off to the championship.
FRC clubs and participants receive support from a vast network of volunteers, educators, sponsors, and donators. Alumni and people who have competed in FRC competitions gain access to education and career discovery opportunities, connections to exclusive scholarships and employers as well as becoming a part of the FIRST Alumni community.
What we do
The FRC section of the club will, ideally, meet 3-4 times per week, 3-5 hours after school. FRC participants will be split into 5 respective sub-teams to ensure everyone has a significant role in the club. Everyone will contribute to designs, ideas, and learn new things in this section. We strive to have every club member involved in our activities. We will aim to compete in 2 competitions in the Florida region every year.
Three of the 5 sub-teams are focused on the engineering aspect of the club, being Mechanical, Electrical and Software. The remaining 2 sub-teams focus on the business side of the club, Media and Business.
- Mechanical focuses on designing, 3D modeling, machining and building the chassis, systems, and field elements for the robot alongside Electrical and Software team members.
- Electrical focuses on electrical hardware placements, wiring, soldering, and making sure the robots have access to power needed for its systems. They will work alongside Mechanical and Software to find viable placements and designs for the robot.
- Software focuses on coding the robot’s actions, creating functions for easier controls, testing, troubleshooting and setting systems on hardware and configuring software. You will work with Electrical and Mechanical to find viable designs and systems.
- Media focuses on taking pictures and showcasing the club’s activities and progress, running the club’s social media accounts and other activities such as outreach and fundraising.
- Business focuses on managing the club’s finances, sponsorships, setting up and running fundraisers and outreach activities.
